The Virginia Allan Young Careerist (YC) Program is a signature BPW program that recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of successful individuals.

Eligibility for the Young  Careerist competition includes:

  • Be between the ages of 21 and 35 (inclusive by July 31st) following the first competition in which she/he participates.
  • Be or have been employed in business (includes self-employed) or the professions with at least one year of full-time work experience in her/his career area.
  • Be a BPW member in good standing and sponsored by a BPW Local to compete at the State level.
  • Understand the BPW/WA mission, vision, and legislative platform. Young Careerists must review the national legislative platform and pledge they will not speak against platform items in the capacities as Young Careerist representatives, if selected.

BPW Washington's Legislative Platform

On January 27, 2020, members of  BPW South Sound participated in Lobby Day at the state capitol.


The Equal Rights Amendment, as authored by Alice Paul, shall stand first, foremost and above all other items which may appear on the platform of this Federation until equal legal rights for women and men become guaranteed in the US Constitution, because all statutory law derives there-

"Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex."

Economic Equity

Support pay equity, equal education and economic opportunities at all stages of life; and promote affordable, quality dependent care to help support economic self-sufficiency for women and their dependents.


Support full access to all women's health services and education, including reproductive choice*, support funds for research into and protections for women's health care needs; and support the national health care policy sections specifically recognizing the special health care needs of women.

*Clarification clause on the words "including reproductive choice" is explained constitutionally, per the Equal Rights Amendment, as a legal right for a woman and a man to jointly decide on having a pregnancy, birth or birth control.

Civil Rights

Support equal rights and remedies for women in all phases of their lives; support affirmative action; eliminate sexual harassment and violence against women.
